Emerson believes society is like a common wave in the ocean. In the ocean anyone can make a wave but there is always that one wave that will make a difference and change in a society. One person, one pebble, in the ocean can make a huge difference. If that one pebble looks within itself it could make a difference in the ocean. Emerson wants people to look within themselves and know that they have true knowledge and can make a difference.
A person should define themselves in a society by showing that they can do great things and make a difference. If an individual looks within themselves and knows who they are and know that they could do things that other people cannot. Then they should show everyone what they could do and maybe people would do the same by looking within. "To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men-that is genius " (19 Emerson)

Memories about 9/11
I don't remember what it was like that day to go to school and see teachers scared and worried. The only memory I have of that day was at home. It was already dark outside and I remember I was watching television in the TV room. I went outside into the kitchen where my mom was. When I was in the kitchen i saw that the news was on and then i looked at my mom and she was crying. I remember asking her what wrong and she said "That some very bad men did some horrible things to innocent people." I didn't understand at the time but I remember that I would understand in the future when I was older. I also remember after my mom said that I looked at the television where the news was showing the video of the planes hitting the buildings and i remember being scared out of my mind and watching people die by jumping out of the building. In just being in second grade I thought I would never see anything more horrible in my life. After watching that video on the news i went over and hugged my mom because I knew that a hug from me would make her feel a little better. My mom kept telling me that she couldn't imagine the families and friends that have to watch this knowing that their love ones are dead or severely injured. Now that I am older and understand what happened that day I see that this world has many faults. Where do people get off thinking they can take someones life just for the hell of it? This might sound very Christian of me but I believe who or what brought us (God or someone like that) in this world should be able to take us out of it. I hope this world sees that we need to change as a whole. We all live on this place called Earth we should learn to live in peace and love.
After reading this article about people in Florida at a church want to burn the Koran I was really confused. I get that people will never forget about this day and I don't think that anyone will because it is history and effected a lot of people. But burning a Koran is not going to do anything. It is not going to bring back the people that died. I believe this is really going to hurt the people in America that are American citizens that are Islamic. They did nothing to deserve this and this goes against freedom of religion. The first amendment states that people have the right to express to their own religion and by doing this is like spitting in the people here that practice the Islamic faith.

Thursday 9/2 -Jounral Entry Summary
These two article "What Happened to the Signers of The Declaration of Independence?" and Bold Men in Ruffled Shirts" showed me how truely glad and how much I appreciate my freedom and the 4th of July. i never knew these men took such risks. they ricked their lives, families, homes, money, and friends. for signing a document they paid a price because that document is very important that gives us AMericans still today our freedom. After signing The Declaration of Independence these men suffered and lost so much. These men were so brave they did this for their families, friends, and for the future. They are heros and should be well respected.

Response to The American Crisis
Thoma Paine made a very strong arguement! He knew that people were suffering and he wants that to change. He believes God thinks that Amecia is the best country and Paine believes by telling people this they could help by making America a better country. People could stop the suffering and treat everyone equal whether they were poor or a different color they are still people working hard trying to make a good life fot themselves or their family. "There are persons too who see not the full extent of the evil which threatens, they solace themselves with hopes that the enemy, if they succeed, will ne merciful." (53) Some people aren"t looking around them to see that there are people suffereing, human neings just like them. The people suffering may not be rich or white but there is something we can all do to help them and when doing that we become a stronger and better country when we come together. Paine also believes that war isn't always the answer it is still murder no matter which country a person is from because they are a human being. "Not all the treasure of the world, so far as i believe, could have induced me to support an offensive war, for i think it murder." (53)
